Discmill

The Patented UMS DISCMILL

The patented UMS DISCMILL® Type MHA 600 grinds the product between two discs upon which corrugated grinding elements are mounted. The profile and size of the corrugations, much like the fluting used on rollermills, is one of the factors which determines the characteristics of the ground product. Two other important factors influencing the grind characteristic are speed of rotation and the gap between the grinding elements.

Different Corrugation Profiles

For each application the type of corrugation, relative disposition of the corrugations (sharp to sharp, dull to dull etc.), speed and motor size are selected by UMS, and the machine is supplied so configured.

The grinding gap can be adjusted on site, easily and accurately, by means of a micrometer hand-wheel. When the corrugated elements are worn, or a different corrugation profile is required, the elements can be changed quite easily - it takes about one hour for one man.

Many Applications

The Discmill® has many applications and is the heart of several UMS milling systems. It can be used with finesse to break open cereal grains such as wheat or it can be used with brute force to reduce granular products to fine flour. The UMS Discmill® bridges the gap between rollermills and hammermills.

Capacity

Capacity depends upon the product and the severity of grind, but is typically around 3000 kg per hour for whole grains, falling to 1500 kg per hour for finer products such as semolina. A 37 KW motor is fitted as standard, but smaller motors can be used if appropriate

Installation

Installation of the Discmill® is straightforward. It is supplied
with vibration dampeners for each of the four feet of the
free-standing support frame. The ground product discharge
point is located at sufficient height to allow the installation of
the ground product conveying line on the same floor as the
Discmill®. This means the Discmill can be located on a solid
ground floor if required. The compact design and small
footprint compare favourably with those of a rollermill or hammermill.
